About

Born to the most ancient and powerful noble house of sorcerers in Ishgard, Anis de Dessendre is an austere elezen fated with both the blessing and burden of being the vessel of Death himself. His manners are a mixture of antique melancholy, gentle tenderness and millenia old knowledge. Aware of who and what he is, the elezen is a very empathetic person but also knows how and when to be neutral, how and when to be bad if he so desires. He is kind but imposing, honest but cunning when and with who it is time to be. With eldritch, innate magical power granted to him by the fusion of Death’s primordial existence and his own human soul into one, he fulfills his mission offering healing, aid and solace as well oblivion— gentle and fair for those who deserve, cruel and inescapable for those who don’t.Anis is of a slender but athletic, muscular built. Black hair, green left eye and a usually black eyepatch over his blind right eye contrast with the elezen’s very pale, white complexion. Usually dressed in black or white, always with golden details, the tips of Anis’ fingers on his hand and feet are black as a mark of the extremelly powerful magic within him. He is always seen, no matter what, using a delicate round earring with pendants on it— a piece used by all members of House Dessendre and its servents, as well as being a special gift given to him and his sibling’s upon their birth to symbolize their bond to each other, to their House and to their mission.Reflecting the sorrow of a thousand mortal farewells, to observe him is to love the sublime, tragic instrument of either your salvation or your own inevitable end.

House Dessendre

House Dessendre is the oldest, most ancient clan in Coerthas, dating back to the Asshai— the first inhabitants of the land after the Sundering of Etheirys. It was decided among the four founding knights of the Holy See that House Dessendre would become the first and most important High House of Ishgard, due to both their ancient Asshai'i origins and their religious influence in the nation. Despite accepting their status as a founding High House, despite being so well regarded and the most respected, however, House Dessendre oped out of leadership positions within the city's new government. Though still having the most venerable seat within the council of the High Houses, century after century the family chose to remain uninvolved in political decisions - a decision still maintained in modern days - claiming their responsibilities as the main sorcerers and funerary workers of Ishgard to be too many and too great to take care of anything else, as theirs were all the mortuary arts and rites utilized and popularized in their nation. So it was, then, that House Dessendre once more established themselves and their enduring, silent but strong, ever present influence. Their existence became a curious nexus where ancient faith, magicks, commerce, and the mortuary arts mingled, drawing a workforce dedicated to both life’s end and the afterlife’s promise in the very fabric of ishgardian and Etheirys’ existences. At the present, House Dessendre is composed by Head of the House Count Nellemond de Dessendre, his wife Countess Gwenollie, their children, the triplets Hana, Anis - this generation of Dessendre’s vessel of Death - and Idristan as well as thousands of servants and workers within their manor and its territories, all continuing their task of overseeing the cyclical dance of life and death, aiding Death Himself in his own everlasting craft.

Background

Originating from Chaos, the Chasm, the first ones to every exist were a civilization of eldritch beings know as Primordials who created the universe, Etheirys as well and its flora, fauna and life as a whole. Creatures of immensurable power and existence, these god-like proto-ancients assumed corporeal forms in order to better develop and navigate the worlds and lands they made and, as such, also birthed the first generations of Ancients— as their progeny eventually came to be known.Acheron, Death itself, was one among these many primordials. Son of Nyx, the Night itself, and twin sibling of Hypnos, the Sleep and Oneiros, the Dream, Acheron was the primordial force responsible for bringing all things to an end. His was not a power of creation but instead of destruction, be it gentle or not. The final stop at all mortal beings’ Journey’s End. Yet he grew to have great appreciation, respect, even love and empathy towards the lives of his relavites’ creations, granting them eternal rest yet allowing their energy, the most pure form of theirs souls - their aether - to live on in the infinite stream of universe known as the Aetherial Sea, and thus offer said energy of life back to those yet to come.As the Ancients’ time started so did the Primordials’ time come to an end. Deeming their presence no longer necessary in corporeal form, all Primordials reverted back to their original form— beings made of infinity and indefinite form, bond to the aetherial sea and all the universe around it. Death, however, chose to remain. His existence and presence was, throughout the millenia, known only to a few who worked directly with him, these few being some members of the Convocation of 14 - the governing body the Ancients created to oversee policies and ensure order in creations of their own. As the universal force of Finite Life and the Primordials themselves started to be seen as gods of eld, Acheron did not see it wise nor fair to put himself in a position of power. Instead, he chose to remain a neutral element responsible only for that which was his very essence. When the tragedy of the Final Days came upon the World Unsundered, Acheron - primordial Death itself - at last unmade his corporeal form just moments before the Sundering happened, but wished to be among the mortal ones still. As Etheirys was divided and became Hydaelyn, The Source, and its 13 Shards, Death felt it wise to have a vessel more suitable for that newly made world and its aether. He also desired to better understand the newly made life forms, Acheron chose to bond himself, his very essence and existence into an existing mortal. His choice was the life growing within a young elezen maiden among some of the very first of her people to be created post-Sundering alongside her male partner during the Source's First Astral Era.Followers of Charnon - Death itself and the deity of the dead in their native traditions - the young mother and father-to-be accepted Acheron’s request to use the child in her womb as his vessel despite the initial fear they had, understanding that to be a destiny greater than themselves. The couple and their family were to be the Wardens of Death within that world and it would be so until the end of mortal days. Upon Acheron’s vessel growing too old or too incapable of bearing his essence, another child about to be within the same clan would be chosen as the new vessel. Thus from that moment and throughout eternity, theirs was the task to oversee to every one of Death’s needs and requests as well as be the ones responsible for funerary rites in their land— Asshai, the first city founded within the mountainous region known as Coerthas. In return and as a gratitude for accepting such laborous task to the rest of their existence, the family was bestowed by Acheron with very powerful aether and innate domain over all shapes, circle and forms of magicks. Befitting of their ancient and everlasting purpose, the Wardens adopted the epithet Des Cendres— “From the Ashes” in their native language, which eventually evolved into ‘Dessendre’ when surnames as known nowdays became more established.Centuries after, during the Sixth Astral Era, an elezen king named Thordan led his people from the south to the lands within the peaks of Coerthas. Upon their arrival, the southerners entered a war with the dragons of Dravania until learning that Shiva, a member of the Dessendre, allowed herself to be devoured by the great wyrm Hraesvelgr so their souls would be bound and peace would be restored. Shiva's sacrifice and the Asshai'i people intervening to protect them brought a truce between the southern men and the dragons— which up until that point had always been allies to the Asshai'i and particularly to the Dessendre clan. A desire for unity grew as a result of Shiva and the northern men's actions. Asshai's leader, head of clan Dessendre, and all of the Asshai'i welcomed the southerners as part of their own. King Thordan and his people, in turn, vowed to honor the Asshai and promised to bring them prosperity as gratitude to those who have aided him and his own. Both peoples then chose to become one and the same in order to symbolize those events and the bond created by an Asshai'i sacrifice in the name of the newcomers, fouding a new kingdom they have named as Ishgard. With the unification, the southern Halonic faith and Asshai's death-centric traditions also became one. To clan Dessendre and all of the Asshai'i, Charnon - their name for Death itself - was not a specter to be feared. It was instead worshipped, understood as the silent and inevitable end that awaits all. The Fury and her followers, in turn, presided over celebrating life, over good and heroic deeds. They didn't have, however, funerary rites nor a god or image of Death which would then lead and take care of the departed once entering Halone's Halls when one's time came to be. To this they would then turn to Charnon and the Asshai'i death faith, thus creating the dual ishgardian faith practiced until modern times. The Kingdom of Ishgard lasted for 200 hundred years until the start of the Dragonsong war, when King Thordan, first of his name, died after once again waging war against dragonkind and his son, Haldrath, abdicated the throne. Haldrath's four remaining knights from the start of the War thus established the Holy See of Ishgard in place of the old kingdom, and created the ishgardian High Houses as they are known today.

Hooks

  •   Thanatos  ㅤ
Anis is the vessel for Death himself, Acheon, who's chosen to live among the mortals of Etheirys after the Sundering of the star. Since those times, children within the Dessendre family still in their mothers' wombs were the chosen ones to be his new human self. Anis is the said vessel of his generation and is very much aware of who and what he is despite also feeling himself human, since his human soul has become fused with Acheron's very essence. He is both Anis Dessendre, the elezen, and Death himself. And though of couse he is capable of dying as his body is still a regular, mortal one, it is notably difficult to do so. Unbeknownst to both Anis and his family, Acheron seems to have become particularly attatched to this generation's vessel of his— countless times, though not coming out of them unscathed, Anis survived encounters he shouldn't have. Why is it that Death himself seems to have such appreciation for this mortal iteration of his is yet to be understood.

  •   Blackblood  ㅤ
Though having control upon all sorts of magicks and incantations, it is obviously upon powers of the void and destruction that Anis excels. Black magic, void magic, blood magic, necromancy, all of those and more are his true domain. His weapon is the scythe, the very same ancient one yielded by Acheron, Death Himself, before his days among the mortal. This has, many times, have those around Anis confusing him for a garlean reaper or to at least have learned of the void arts through them— something he just allows others to belive as it is easier than saying the truth. It is also known to the Dessendre that, due to them being triplets (Anis was the second to be born), fragments of his essence and a small portion of Acheron's aether went on to Anis' siblings Hanaelle and Idristan. This granted both Hana and Idristan magical power beyond control though not nearly as strong or vast as their brother's.

  •   Tales of loss  ㅤ
As a result of his vessels still very much having their own soul, being their own selves with their wants, morals, personality and feelings, many were the times where Death himself loved, hated, had children, truly lived. With the coming of the Dragonsong War, Anis saw himself losing his husband and child during a dragon attack. The event made him greatly question his existence as the human part of his soul, to this day, wondered how or why he couldn’t have stopped that from happening while the primordial being existing in him knew that, one day, this was bond to happen. Sometimes he indulges himself by watching after their souls while struggling and trying with his best efforts not to disturb their eternal rest as this, he knew, could bring more sorrow than solace. The bodies of his late husband, Arthurioux and their 10 year old son, Ciel, were burried together on the backyards of House Dessendre's manor, their grave being the manson's gardern's central piece.

  •   Family business  ㅤ
The entirety of House Dessendre as well as all of their servants and staff, since their very formation, are aware that they are the guardians of Death and that Death himself walks among them. Theirs is the responsibility to abide to Acheron's requests, orders, mortuary and funerary responsibilities that he bestowed upon them. All of Ishgard's mortuary rites, practices, rituals and facilites are under the jurisdiction of House Dessendre and its members. Those within and working for this High House are extremelly dedicated and loyal to their everlasting task, from simple things like keeping Manor Dessendre in proper conditions to the funerary services of all of the Holy See. Many within ishgarian society, despite knowing the Dessendre and their staff to be good, kind and respectful, consider them weird, eery and mysterious, their often dark and seemingly haunted aesthetics and demeanor contributing to this factor.

  •   Little nightmares  ㅤ
The elezen has many pets but the closest ones to him are Grani, a steed created by Acheron himself during the days of the Ancients; two magical black owls to whom he refers only as 'the Iyami', who serve as his eyes and ears throughout all of Etheirys and report back to him when sent on a mission; a scrawny black cat with big golden eyes and bat wings named Isauro, his faithful companion who's by his side at all times. Aside from Grani, none of his other animals are visible to anyone but Anis himself, his family and the Dessendre's servant and staff. At times, some of the more mischievous ones make themselves visible just to startle humans.

  •   The Doctor is In  ㅤ
Being Death himself granted infinite power and control over any and every sort of magicks to his human vessels. Due to this, and believing its the least they could do for the living before fetching them on their fateful, final day, it was decided by House Dessendre that one of their main lines of work would be as doctors, chirurgions and magical healers. At present, Anis runs the Dessendre’s clinic, which also operates as an apothecary shop and mortuary house in the Pillars, offerings medical and physical healing aid there as well as treatments with magic. The fact they welcome people of all origins there - from the lowborn of the Brume to the nobles of the Pillar - has been a reason for a lot of distaste from the nobles to grow towards them. No one, however, is foolish enough to go against the largest, most ancient and respecte family Ishgard.

  •   A Man has many names  ㅤ
Death is an omnipotent and omnipresent force and, as such, is present in all cultures of Etheirys be it as a personified deity or not. For some he is Thanatos, Aysun, Teon, Charon. For others, Izanami, Morana, Sefsamos, Mictlantecuhtli, Iku. Many are the names mortals call him and to all of them he responds. Anis is very aware of this and and its to any of those names he responds to whenever someone from the many different cultures of the Source is able to discover, to know who and what he is. Being Death incarnate has also given him the ability to read, speak and understand all languages of Etheirys, from ancient and arcaic to modern ones.

  •   Pain passes, but the beauty remains  ㅤ
Anis has a profound passion for humanity but especially for the human arts. Being Death himself has given him a deeper understanding and appreciation for how fleeting human life is, and thus just how beautiful human beings are as well. He is very passionate about paintings, sculptures, jewelry but especially about music. In moments of distress, Anis retreats to his music room for a moment with himself, his feelings and his instruments. Though being trained in many classical instruments as well as in singing, it is on the violin, cello or piano that his greatest passion truly lies and those are the instruments he loves and plays the most. He is also very passionate about food (and is a good cook too), warm drinks, dance, traveling; he is passionate about animals, nature and about - ironically but beautifully so - life as a whole.

RP guidelines

All of the rules below are mandatory in order for a good relationship both IC and OOC. By interacting with me you declare that you have read them and to be at least 18 of age or a legal adult within your country. You understand that beyond this point there will be mention of adult contexts (which according to the timeline, could be violent in nature) and that you will be speaking with/may agree to interact with a person of age; who is interested in writing mature and/or dark themes and is looking to play with another adult. That being said, things here go as follow:1. 21+ ONLY. I'm 40 years old (too old to be rping? I don’t think so) and have almost no triggers whatsoever, meaning I am willing to rp anything as long as we discuss boundaries and what/where we are willing to go to with the rp.2. While I do enjoy various different themes and kinks for RP I’m someone who mostly prioritizes story-driven, detailed and immersive roleplaying, as well as doing extensive, deep worldbuilding and lore for my characters and the enviroments they live in. I am willing to make shorter, more simple rps my main goal (and honestly what I enjoy the most) is for lenghty, deep storytelling, always focusing on the quality of writting and the character development. My favorite settings are dark fantasy, gothic things and the occult so you’ll be finding a lot of that in all of my characters as well as their worldbuild. If you are someone who enjoys all of these things please do feel free to reach out!3. Although mainly canon based, this is a canon divergent profile which means that I will use FFXIV’s canon, lore and worldbuild but only up to a certain point, in order for better rp development with other players. This also is not only to make things more interesting but also in order for me to develop my characters better, in terms of worldbuilding headcanons and personality.4. Chemistry is what I aim for, regardless of the relationship our muses have. Be it a romance, a friendship or enmity, I will go for it as long as there is chemistry between the muses. I find it very hard trying to keep interacting with people and feel their interaction is empty and/or somehwat awkward because they have nothing in common, so chemistry is a big thing for me. Please keep that in mind as well and please do not try to push and/or force your muse on mine in any possible way.5. Single ship only. No hard feelings towards those who enjoy otherwise, of course. But in my 2 decades of online roleplaying most of my experiences with muitlishipping and/or poly ships weren’t very positive so I realized this kind of thing is just not for me. I am only willing to rp those with close friends and only after a proper conversation about boundaries and how everything is going to go.6. IC =/= OOC. Please keep in mind that although my main character and I share the same namemuns do put some of traits and tastes of theirs in thier muses, my characters’ behaviors, actions, beliefs and/or general tendencies DO NOT reflect my own. No homophobia, transphobia, racism, sexism or bigotry of any kind will be tolerated.7. Aside from often having to take care of IRL matters I’m also autistic with severe depression and anxiety, which sometimes might pull me away from Tumblr for a while. Because of this, I ask you to please bear with me and be patient in case I am taking too long to reply as these will almost 100% be the reason why. It is fine to ask me about it but I ask that you please refrain from pressuring me from replies.I am open for both ingame and Discord rp and even though I’m a huge introvert person, I’m a also very open, receptive and goofy lol. So if you feel like sending me anything, be it an ask or a message , please feel free to do that! I'l be more than hapy to receive it :)
